The Objective:

Al’s Pals, a cancer ‘buddy’ scheme created in memory of Alan Dumbell, provides support and companionship to cancer patients at Milton Keynes University Hospital. Inspired by Alan’s vision of ensuring no patient feels alone during their treatment, the program needed a compassionate and professional brand identity that would effectively communicate its mission and engage both patients and the wider community.

The Plan:

  1. Brand Development:
    • Designed a clean, modern logo featuring a simple icon of an “A” hugging to symbolise care, support, and connection.
    • Used a colour palette of blue, red, and white to convey trust, compassion, and hope, aligning with the program’s supportive values.
  2. Print Advertising and Materials:
    • Produced print advertising and flyers to raise awareness of the program and its services, ensuring the design was welcoming and easy to understand.
    • Created branded business cards for staff and volunteers, providing a professional touch to their outreach efforts.
  3. Specialty Designs:
    • Designed Christmas cards to spread holiday cheer and increase engagement with the community.
    • Developed certificates to recognise contributions and milestones within the program.
    • Created stickers as a versatile, friendly branding element to enhance materials and increase visibility.

The Solution:

The branding for Al’s Pals established a clean and modern identity that perfectly captured the warmth and compassion of the program. The hugging “A” icon became a recognisable symbol of the care and connection the scheme provides, while the blue, red, and white palette reinforced a sense of trust and positivity.

The suite of materials, from flyers and business cards to Christmas cards and certificates, created a cohesive and professional presence for Al’s Pals. These thoughtful designs helped to effectively communicate the program’s mission and foster stronger connections with both patients and supporters.

With this refined branding and set of materials, Al’s Pals is now equipped to reach more patients and expand its impact, carrying forward the legacy of Alan Dumbell and his vision of ensuring no one faces cancer alone.
